Analysis, handbooks and essays. On the science of obesity, remote medicine, and what good digital health requires.
The science of obesity: three analyses
Three related analyses prepared for BMJ submission, each addressing a distinct failure in how obesity is understood and treated. Together they make the case for a clinical definition beyond BMI, a new risk-factor category, and long-term management as the default.
Remote Consultations Handbook
A practical handbook for clinicians conducting video and telephone consultations safely and effectively. Written at the height of the shift to remote medicine during the Covid-19 pandemic, it covers setting, the consultation structure, the patient-doctor relationship in a remote context, system-specific remote examination techniques, and special situations including paediatrics, care homes and mental health.
The second edition was produced in collaboration with the RCGP. All royalties were donated to Médecins Sans Frontières.

Remote Consultations for GPs
A learning module for family physicians on conducting safe and effective remote consultations, produced for BMJ Learning, the continuing medical education platform of the British Medical Journal. Covers the evidence base for remote consultation, the adaptations required for different clinical presentations, and the ethical and professional considerations specific to remote practice.
My Approach to Weight Loss
Why the way we think about weight has had to change, and what that means now that medicine can finally act on the biology underneath it. The essay covers the shift in scientific understanding, the three pillars that underpin good clinical practice in this area, and what it means for digital health delivery.
